This is a beautiful 1898 Krag Jorgensen Carbine. It was manufactured in 1898 by Springfield Armory for the U.S. Army and is chambered in .30 Army (30-40 Krag). It was one of only 5,000 made that year and the serial number puts it at the beginning of production. The Krag Jorgensen was adopted by the U.S. as their service rifle beginning in 1892 to replace the outdated single shot Trap Door Springfields. It has a unique side loading magazine and was the first smokeless powder rifle adopted by the U.S. They saw extensive main line service in the Spanish American War and the Philippine American War. It was replaced by the 1903 Springfield but continued in service for secondary troupes, home guard, and state militias through the first World War. This rifle is in excellent condition with a bright crisp bore. I have shot it a number of times over the last 30 years and it is an excellent shooter. Please send a number if you need additional information. $1400 Serious Only.
